Club Championships (14th Nov)
The Annual Club Championships will take place at the WCH Badge event at Brocton & Milford, Cannock Chase on 14th November.
Closing date is 24th October.
The championship is decided by best percentage against Gold Time, and there is a special award for the best newcomer to the sport, open to those with less than two years orienteering.
(We would have chosen Eyam the following week, but this clashes with the British Schools Champs, and many of our Juniors would have been away).

One of those events when things did not go well for the Club.
The Open team (much depleted by causes beyond our control), took part in 5 mini-mass starts, so are bound to be well down in the results.
The Juniors team had two failures - one a 'housekeeping error', where map 78 was collected rather than map 87, and one a lighting failure, meaning 2km in a technical area finding controls by a penlight!
Next year the Juniors will be trying to make it 3 wins in four years - and will hopefully have essentially the same team.
But the Women's team did well, finishing 6th, giving the club lots of points in the UK Relay League.
More details when results appear.

White Rose (28 30th Aug)
The Robby Knudd relays were won by Tim Blaney, Stuart Hatfield and Sian Roberts. Thanks to excellent handicapping by Paul Morris, the first three teams were in the finish funnel at the same time.
First in the Forest was Tim Blaney.
The Cricket was easily won by the adults, although rain and darkness did stop play before the juniors had a chance to bowl out enough adults with negative scores!

Harvester (11th/12th Sep)
We have entered three teams.
The Junior team will be going for their hat trick, and the five places are already filled.
However, the Women's and Men's teams are still short of a couple of runners.
Contact Tony Donaldson or Ray Barnes or Helen Palmer.
If you can't make the Harvester, the only valid excuse is that you are helping at the Colwick Park event on the Sunday morning.

Surge of Power for our Chairman (3rd July)
Tony and Catherine's house in Ilkeston was struck by lightning on Saturday morning.
Many thousands of pounds of damage was done to their roof, electrical wiring, telephone system and computer.
Only Catherine was in at the time. She awoke with the noise, then went back to sleep, only discovering the damage next morning when she saw bricks lying in the garden!
It make take several days before normal communication by phone is re-established, and even longer before eMail is available again.

The 'O' Zone takes off (9 6 99)
The first 'O' Zone event took place at Carr Bank Park, in Mansfield on a beautiful sunny day. With kind assistance from Mansfield District Council and their staff, we were able to use Pauline Olivant's new map to introduce over 60 primary school children to running with a map, complete with proper beeping clocks and electronic timing.
After being 'map walked' to assembly, the juniors were helped to mark up their maps, fill in and attach their control cards before running the 840m course with 12 controls. The winning time was only 5:06. Pretty good for 10 year olds!
We had issued press releases, and were rewarded with front page coverage in the Mansfield Recorder. Results and Photos
