There will be no club evening from 28 Jul until 1 Sep. We will resume on 8th September.
Congratulations to Joy, the youngest Hodkinson, who has won the D10 class at the O-Ringen by 6 minutes. There is a story on Nopesport and the results are here
Details of these coaching courses are in this document. Closing date is Sept 1st.
Congratulations to Steve and Tim Martin --- as mentioned on the Lowe Alpine website In some of the other categories, there were changes at the top, most notably in the D class where overnight 9 th pair, father and son, Stephen and Tim Martin come through to win, though perhaps they might have been better placed yesterday if Tim's shoe hadn't disintegrated. Though they were lucky that CompassPoint were on hand to make a mercy dash to the overnight with shoes for them and a few other teams.
According to the DVO Forum the result is Ashbourne 1st, Holme Pierrepoint A 2nd, DVO 3rd, NOC 4th.
We are still in need of some runners to complete our team for the Footpath Relay. Please contact Richard urgently to get us a full team ! (see entry of 4th May below)

The Final will be on 16 October 2005 near Burnley and hopefully we can again put out a strong team. Details of this will be available closer to the event.

The date for Burntstump is SUNDAY not Saturday 15th as unfortunately appeared in one document.

Because no one has come forward to plan Vicar Water on 29th May - probably because everyone is away, we've postponed it until either 14th or 21st August, depending on permissions etc. Obviously, we still need a planner/organiser please !
Eddie Nicholson, the organiser of the Police Orienteering Championships being held in Clumber Park on Monday 23rd May, is encouraging as many of us who want to have a run to come along for starts from 13:30-14:00. The run cost is limited to the parking fee (if you are not NT member), plus a nominal fee for the overprinted map. It is SI punching. Details of courses available to follow.
Keith Streb has kindly contributed an article on Sherwood Forest.

We often hear, and read, that newcomers to the sport (as well as the old hands) would like a focus point, away from events, where they can meet other orienteers, learn techniques properly, discuss what went wrong last week, have mapping and planning explained to them.
We have therefore secured facilities in Bramcote Hills Comprehensive School (entrance in Moor Lane) every Thursday starting tomorrow, 7th April. The first week is just a training run, but thereafter there is a full programme of activities that has been planned covering the physical, technical and social sides of the sport.
The social side of the club has dwindled in recent years. Here is an opportunity to get things going again - we look forward to seeing you there. Names on results sheets should then become faces.
The programme is available here. Print it out and pin to your kitchen noticeboard !!
Location Map
Please note date of Colwick Woods has been changed from 12th to 11th June to avoid clash with Footpath Relay
This years Harvester is being hosted by the YHOA and was originally scheduled to be in North Yorkshire though due to access problems whispers suggest it may be at Pillar Wood (last year's CS Cup final venue) near Caistor in north Lincolnshire. The Harvester is a night-day relay that starts in the early hours of the morning.

Hopefully this year we can get out at least three teams (Men's, Women's and Junior), with NOC juniors doing particularly well in this competition in the past.
Race A (men) - 7 legs (4-5 night legs, 1 dawn)
Race B (women, juniors) - 5 Legs (3 night, 1 dawn)

There are no entry details currently available but would like to have names of those that would be interested in running. Here is the form.

According to the provisional results, NOC makes the final again.
Last weekend the England team won the annual 'Interland' match with the help of four members of NOC. 'Interland' is an annual competition held between England, The Netherlands, Wesfalen (NW Germany) and the two Belgium teams VVO (the Flemish organization) and FSRO (the French organization) with each country sending a big team including orienteers from all ages M/W14 to M/W60.

NOC members in the England team were Peter Hodkinson (M14), Andrew Llewellyn (M18 running M20), Hilary Palmer (W55 running W50) and Tim Martin (M14 travelling reserve). Peter and Andrew won their classes, Hilary was fourth and Tim's fast time was good enough to beat fellow team members although he did not score. The area was low, forested sand dunes with excellent runnability and everyone enjoyed the event.
