NOC have been busy scooping up awards over the last few months. Following on winning the British Schools Score Championship earlier in the year, Alice Carley received the Bassetlaw Junior Sportswoman of the Year Award (Under 14). At the Nottinghamshire sports awards, Peter Hodkinson was nominated as amateur sportsperson of the year and the NOC men's relay team were nominated as team of the year. Although we didn't scoop up the top honours, we did get to meet the likes of Peter Shilton and Carl Froch."

Details available on LEI site at http://www.leioc.org.uk/ and entries are via Fabian4 and are due to close this weekend. The event does have quite high access costs, and has to pay for bussing, hence the higher entry fees, but is using some parts of the wood that have not been used for some time.

All the best to Richard Torr on his move North.

Just to let you and NOC know that I'm leaving Nottingham on Wednesday 5th October to move to Northumberland....so I will be defecting to NATO! I would like to thank the Club for many years happy orienteering and for its support in achieving Controller status. I have thoroughly enjoyed running around the East Midlands, and, although now somewhat lapsed, I'm looking forward to getting out and about in Northumberland. I've made many friends over the years and hope to see them out in the woods somewhere in the future.

With best wishes to all and hopes that NOC continues to thrive.

Richard

Fancy being a certified first aider? Here's your chance, you don't have to be a coach etc. just a member of NOC. Who knows when your newly acquired skill will come in handy?

Last January SYO ran a 1 day basic and emergency first aid course with a focus on dealing with emergency situations outdoors. It was highly practical and those that attended found it very beneficial. As a result they have decided to run a repeat of this course on Saturday 13th February from 9am to 5pm in Broomhill, Sheffield.

The cost is £50 per person (which NOC will pay)

This is a fully certified course and you will receive a certificate on completion. Please email Pauline Tryner to book a place and also let our treasurer Peter Cholerton know.
The first East Midlands Score Championships will take place at Clumber Park on Sunday 7 February. Competitors can enter in advance or on the day. A discounted entry fee is available until midnight on Monday 1 February. The entry cost is a bit higher than for other Level C events but this includes car parking. Orienteers will not be required the pay the National Trust car parking fee of £7.00 per car. Enter online at www.fabian4.co.uk. Volunteers can obtain a helper code from their team leader or the event organiser.
Here is the latest news from British Orienteering's chief executive Mike Hamilton, read the newsletter here.
The latest newsletter from the East Midlands is now available here.
Please note that this is a night score event with a mass start at 7.15pm. Registration will open at 6.30pm. We will be joined by the LOG Club Night so there will be some healthy competition. A lot of fences have been removed at Bevercotes in the past year and the grass rides have been cut so the conditions are good. There are a few areas of standing water after recent rain but the planner has adjusted some control positions to reduce the chance of competitors getting very wet. If you are not confident orienteering in the dark, come along as Bevercotes has a good path network and the course includes a group of easier controls (more details on the night).
Saturday 16th January NOC members Training at Wollaton Park. Meet in the top car park (£2 fee) near the hall and courtyard for a 10.30 start. There'll be chance to practice compass work and find controls all over the park. There's a courtyard cafe too for a coffee afterwards. Please let me know if you'll be coming so I know how many maps to print.
