Unfortunately the club have had to make the tough decision to cancel our East Midlands League event at Walesby Forest on 20th December. As you will understand this is as a result of the developing COVID restrictions and the latest guidance from British Orienteering: "People are advised not to travel into or out of tier 3 areas (very high alert) in order to participate or volunteer in an orienteering activity or event." We look forward to running the event on a rescheduled date in the New Year, and will publicise when a date is confirmed. Dave Schorah NOC Chair

Event Safety Training
British Orienteering have developed a brilliant online training portal and the Event Safety Workshop is currently free to complete. I've recently done this myself and can assure you it takes less than an hour and has some great information. If you think you might want to get involved in running events, or are just curious, I would encourage you do the course, here.

Dear all,

I hope this finds you well. It's been an unusual year to say the least, and unfortunately we are unable to meet in person for our club AGM this year. As an alternative, I will be holding a virtual meeting at 8pm on Wednesday 28th October (2 weeks today), where I hope you can join me to discuss the plans of the club. All of the details you need to join the meeting are at the bottom of this message but please get in touch on chair@noc-uk.org if you are unsure. Similarly if you are unable to attend the meeting but wish to have your comments included feel free to contact me.

Accounts for the last year are attached to this email along with my report and the agenda for our online meeting is below. The current committee have all agreed to stay on in their positions for the next year until we have our next in-person AGM but if anyone would like to be considered for a role, or to join the committee, please get in touch and we can discuss this ahead of our online session.

Agenda:
Confirming 2019 minutes.
Matters arising from 2019 meeting.
Chairs Report.
Treasurers Report.
Election of Auditor.
Election of Officers.
Any Other Business.
Otherwise, there are two points for me to raise with you before we meet:

Club Equipment Storage
The current storage location for our event organising equipment is soon to be demolished and given it's quite useful stuff, we are looking for a new home for it. We are currently auditing exactly how much space is required but it is fairly compact - if anyone has space in a shed, garage or similar that they would be happy to let the club use please get in touch.

I hope to speak with you soon,

Dave Schorah

The club now have the ability to directly add courses to the application so watch this space!

Need to know more information on the MaprunF application. Airienteers have it already covered on this really useful page. Note : Not all courses on offer will be "Scores" and there doesn't have to be a time limit.
The committee recently talked about making pdf maps available for club members to use for their own personal training. Now that we are allowed to drive somewhere to take exercise people may like to do this. Thanks to Hilary Palmer for producing a course for Bramcote Hills, we believe the car parks are open so if you fancy some fresh air why not give it a go?

What Next?

Well have you heard of MapRunF? A smartphone application that is very easy to use and can provide some great orienteering action. You will need to download the app from your phones app store, install it and then choose a course you wish to do! We have trialled a course at Compton Acres in Nottingham. There is a short and long course to choose and once completed you can upload the results and compare them with everyone else who has completed the courses. Other courses will be online soon and we plan an e-mail shot to the members to let them know. In the meantime why not download the app, have a play with it, see what other courses are available and get ready for some fun in Nottinghamshire.

MaprunF is the latest version of the app.

Resumption of orienteering: Phase 1 in England and the Isle of Man

The updated government guidance published on 11 May 2020 permits the resumption of outdoor sports in England where you take part alone, within a household group, or with one person from outside your household from whom you must stay two metres apart at all times. This will allow us to resume a limited set of orienteering activities.

There is no change to the current position in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and so orienteering activities in these parts of the UK must remain suspended for now.

In England and the Isle of Man, we will move to Phase 1 of the resumption of orienteering with effect from 14 May 2020. This will mean that clubs and individuals can:

Promote the use of Permanent Orienteering Courses (POCs)
Make maps with pre-marked courses available
Promote the use of MapRun and virtual orienteering courses (VOCs)
Carry out mapping and planning for future events
Carry out coaching on a one-to-one basis, as long as social distancing is maintained

The full guidance can be downloaded here.
British Orienteering have today released updated guidance regarding orienteering events amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, NOC activities will not take place in the coming weeks. It is expected there will be at least 12 weeks without orienteering but we will provide detail on when/where events will resume when we know more.

COVID19 - All Orienteering Activities Suspended
It is with great sadness that we are now in a position where all orienteering activities in the UK have to be suspended with immediate effect.

We are aware that the Coranvirus outbreak is a very fluid and rapidly changing situation. We all, therefore, continue to follow advice from the Public Health England, the World Health Organisation and both local and national governments on this matter and will keep the orienteering community updated as appropriate.

We know how great the sport is at supporting each other and we ask that you continue to pull together (albeit virtually) during this difficult time. We will do our best to get you back into the forests as soon as it is safe to do so.

Finally, we ask that you continue to follow the government's guidance on how to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Please stay safe and support each other during this hard time.
The latest East Midlands newsletter is now available here.
Well done to Ant Squire on being crowned the M40 champion at last weekend's event. Full results are here.
Please note that the DVO event that was cancelled due to storm Ciara on 9th of February has been rescheduled for Sunday 23rd February. Details are here.
Mick Lucking (NOC team manager) has been in touch.

This year our Compass Sport Trophy heat is on 15th March at Fixby and Bradley near Huddersfield. We are racing against EPOC, CLARO, HALO, LOG, NATO, NN, SELOC and PFO. The top two teams will go through to the final.

We are going to take a coach to the event and NOC is going to pay for this and the entry fee to the event. It is intended to have coach pick-up points at Nottingham and Mansfield.

Last year we were only 10 points behind EPOC so we stand a chance of getting through to the final at Sutton Park near Birmingham. Every NOC member who completes their course at the event will have a positive effect on the team result because they will be depriving runners from other clubs of valuable points even if not directly counting for NOC. Consequently, this request is addressed to all members of the club.

All NOC entries for the Compass Sport Trophy heat have to come through me so it would be good if you could let me know if you can run as soon as possible, and not later than 17th February.

Attached is an entry request form for this event and also for the relay events at the British and the JK which are shortly after the Compass Sport Cup heat. Note that I will need details of entries for the British relays by 17th February as well.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at teamcaptain@noc-uk.org

Mick Lucking

NOC Team manager
