NOC Juniors continued to show how top-class they are by coming close to winning the YBT again. After 5 years of winning, a third and now a second place, NOC Junior strength in depth is demonstrated once more.

The Minutes of 2003 AGM and Agenda 2004 AGM are published.
It is a fundamental aim of this club to assist both juniors and adults in learning how to orienteer to the best of their ability.

Following a practical assessment last Saturday, Sarah O'Neil has now joined the ranks of qualified coaches as a Level 1 Coach. Congratulations to Sarah.
(Limited) details of an Army Championship at Sherwood Pines on Wednesday 20th Oct are Link no longer available. All are welcome, but there are no beginners courses.

There is also a midweek event at DVO on 13th Oct.

Congratulations to Alison O'Neil seen here finishing in 40th place in the World Orienteering Champs long distance final in Vasteras, Sweden.

Alison O'Neil finished 11th in Qualification Heat B. The top 15 from each of the three heats go forward to the Long Final on Thursday.

Alison O'Neil has been selected to represent GBR in the Long race at the World Champs in Vasteras, Sweden alongside Heather Monro and Helen Winskill.
Congratulations to: Mick Lucking M45, Michael Napier M50 and Hilary Palmer W55 who have been selected for the Veteran Home Internationals in Northern Ireland on Oct2-3.
Two really great runs for Nottinghamshire Orienteering Club's Alison O'Neil at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Poland saw her come 4th in the Middle race and win a bronze medal in the Long distance race. Congratulations to Alison, who started orienteering through Nottinghamshire County Council's Sports Training Scheme when she was at Bramcote Hills Primary School and has been a member of the Nottinghamshire club since then. As expected the Czech Republic dominated the relays, taking gold in both Men's and Women's. The British girls had an outstanding performance to take the silver medal. Everyone ran well, Mhairi came back in 4th place, Rachael came back in 3rd, Helen won her leg, catching Switzerland and sending out Hannah on last leg who ran a strong race, leaving the Swiss behind and coming back in 2nd place. NOC came a creditable third in the footpath relay organised by the club on19th June. South Yorkshire Orienteers fielded a very strong team but Holme Pierrepoint proved even stronger.

After the first two legs NOC were only 20 yards behind the leading SYO team but by half way round the final order of teams had been established. Michael Napier spent a huge amount of time producing an excellently planned event which passed through Calton Lees car park three times to provide considerable spectator interest.

Thanks are due to all who ran and particularly to the members who acted as marshals at the checkpoints.

Next year's race is due to be based near Ashbourne.

Sport England Clubmark Icon NOC has just been awarded the British Orienteering Federation/Sport England Clubmark Award. This recognises the good practice of the club in the area of coaching and organisation for juniors as 'a safe, effective and child friendly club'. We had to demonstrate that our coaches are well qualified and that the club has approved child protection and equity policies. We had to give examples of links with schools and local authorities in our area and show that we have a good programme of coaching and competitions for our juniors. We aim to continue these high standards in the future.
There are still quite a few places left for the NOC team at the footpath relay to be held on 19th June around Chatsworth. Legs vary in length from 2.9 km to 12km and this is the distance you actually run as the route is pre-checked.
If we have enough entries we will also enter a second team.
If you do not want to run, but would like a day out in one of the most beautiful parts of Derbyshire, you can help with the organisation at one of the changeovers. This could be quite fun as teams will be running in both a clockwise and an anti-clockwise direction.
Please contact Mick Lucking by 28th May if you wish to run as legs have to be allocated in time for them to be reconnoitred.

British Orienteering Championships Relays - Entries to Mick Lucking by 7th April
These are being held at Moseley Green, in the Forest of Dean, on Monday 3rd May as part of the "Triple O Severn Weekend".
The classes are as follows: M/W12-, M/W14-, M/W18-, M/W Premier, Short Open, Women Short, M/W35+, M/W40+, M/W45+, M/W50+, M/W55 Mixed, M/W60 Mixed, Ad Hoc, Junior Ad Hoc
The entry fee is £8.00 per person for senior classes and £4.00 per person for junior classes. Cheques should be made payable to NOC and sent to Mick Lucking at 6 Long Lane, Attenborough, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 6BG. NO CHEQUE NO ENTRY. If you are a junior or a student running in a senior class you only need pay the junior rate. please eMail Mick Lucking your name, BOF age class, BOF number, SI number and 1st and 2nd choice team.

The details of how to enter the event are not yet available but these will be posted here as soon as they are available. Please keep this date free in your diary as it will need a full turnout for us to retain the trophy. Because of the proximity of the event we are not taking a coach to this event. If you need transport to the event please contact team manager Mick Lucking. Simon Elliot has run at the area previously and reports that it is very fast and runnable. Unlike most HALO areas he does not recollect many brambles.

This event is earlier in the year compared with last year and hence the bracken should be a lot lower!
Both day and night legs are available varying from 5km to 12km although most are 7km.

This year the event is being organised by us and will be based at Calton Lees Car Park, 2km south of Chatsworth House. This is a 20 leg relay race with details of the route already available at www.cix.co.uk/~neper/footpath.htm. As a result anyone entering is expected to reconnoitre their leg before the day of the race. If you get lost you will have to answer to 19 very disgruntled team mates! The team has to be made up of a mixture of males and females of varying ages. If you wish to run please eMail Mick Lucking your name and BOF age class.

The final is on Sunday 9th May at Pillar Woods, Caistor, Lincs. Please make a note in your diaries as we will need a strong team to retain the trophy. MDOC, WCH, SOC and SO are among the finalists.
I'm a member of BOK and have got into adventure racing in the last few years alongside my orienteering. They are very complimentary activities. The race which I'm planning for Sherwood Forest will involve both foot and mountain bike orienteering on a score basis with one transition between the two activities within a set time of 5 1/2 hours or 5 hours for novices. The course will appeal to beginners and experienced alike. There will also be a surprise element to keep racers guessing. It will be a great opportunity for those who have thought about but not yet taken part in an adventure race to do so.

The race will be available on both Sat 3 April and Sun 4 Aprilbased from the Sherwood Pines Visitor Centre. Further details.

The coach will leave the car park on Central Avenue next to West Bridgford Library at 8.00 am. There are spare places on the coach if anyone else wishes to travel on it.

The British Relay Championships were originally planned to be on the day after the British Individual Championships on 20th March but access to the area has been withdrawn. After many negotiations the British Relay Championships for 2004 are now being held on Monday 3rd May as part of the "Triple O Severn" weekend. Further details will be available in the near future.
The committee has now approved the calculations.
